Spring/Kōanga 2024

Kia ora RAD whānau!

Welcome to our overview of RAD’s universe.

Wow, spring is nearly over already!

Our public sessions are cranking now as we hit peak cycling season. Huge shoutout to our amazing volunteers who keep showing up to share rad skills and help others ride—it wouldn’t be possible without you.

We’re also continuously grateful to Mackersy Property and Life in Vacant Spaces for the ongoing use of their fantastic space. It’s been a game-changer, enabling us take our RADness to new levels in so many ways.

The bike donations keep rolling in (thank you!), so we’re working hard to connect with more local social service providers to get more people on these wheels. And as always, we’d love your help! Know any rad people or organisations looking for bikes? Send them our way! Or best of all, come volunteer with us and help make the RAD magic happen…

RAD NEWS

Ngā mihi nui CCC!

We’re wildly grateful to CCC Sustainability Fund for helping expand our “Find a Bike” services for 2025! Their support will enable twice-weekly sessions and four community pop-ups, extending our RAD reach and impacts.

Sharing a Good RAD Yarn

One of RAD’s founding trustee and our all-around "Maintenance Man" recently featured on The Yarns Men Podcast. Tune in for RAD stories from over the years, and to tautoko The Yarns Men’s mahi in nurturing men’s mental health.

Sweet times…

Shout out to Ariel for showing up with an epic batch of biscuits recently! She fuelled our crew, visitors and raised money for City Mission, all in one epic action. Also big ups to Meaghan for supporting her. You’re both so RAD.

RAD EVENTS

Bikes Lessons for Women!

Our amazing Bike Bridge crew is back for another season of free bike lessons, taught by women, for women. It’s a great way to connect with others, grow your confidence and be empowered to ride. All welcome, anytime! Details here.

Thank You Workshop

We loved hosting Frequency to mihi their support for RAD's kaupapa! Their recent koha is providing hundreds of free locks and helmets to those in need. Stoked recipients, stoked team - great spinning spanners / connecting with ya!

Kids Bikes for Xmas!

The festive season’s coming! We’re fixing kids bikes for Xmas on Sun 8th Dec. Come down to help fix or find bikes for wee ones. All remaining bikes will be donated to recent refugee tamariki. All helping hands appreciated!

Helping Recent Refugees

“Thank you so much! You’ve truly been able to support families who have recently arrived in New Zealand. The families are truly grateful and very happy with your help.”

Volunteer

Volunteers are at the heart of RAD and we love them all!  You don’t have to be a pro-mechanic to be RAD; there are heaps of ways to get involved and it’s a great way to learn.  So click the link if you're curious about how to volunteer. So RAD!

Use RAD

Check out all RAD’s services via our website . Get the lowdown on upcoming events via our calendar (updated regularly). And follow us on Humanitix to get updates and tickets for our mechanic courses / workshops. See ya soon.

Huge mihi to our RAD supporters!

Bring on summer with more RAD riding!

Just to be clear: We're up to our handlebars in bikes!

So please spread the word to anyone looking for a RAD ride—we’d love your help to get even more people riding, as well as keep our stock and community impacts rolling. So many possibilities for RAD xmas gifts!

And finally, a heads up: we take a decent summer break to give our crew a well-earned rest and ensure they’re recharged for another RAD year! Our last public drop-in session for 2024 is Sunday, December 15th, and we’ll be back for more RAD action in 2025 on Sunday, January 19th. So make sure to swing by before then and get yourself sorted for a summer full of riding fun!

Stay RAD and keep pedalling!
